Universal Contact Visit

The Universal Contact Visit is part of the Government's commitment to early intervention for a broad range of health issues of public health significance.

Following the birth of a baby, families in South Australia are offered the service by a Child and Family Health nurse. The service enables the family, child development and heath issues to be identified early and to promote optimal development through early access to child health services, parenting information and support pathways for families.

The visit aims to:

  • assess and respond to the needs of babies and parents and provide or refer parents and babies to appropriate services
  • screen the health of babies
  • provide appropriate parenting information and guidance
  • provide information about relevant community services and supports
  • engage parents and other family members in a positive partnership with health service providers, including CYWHS staff and services
