  • Cultural Profiles - community profiles for health care providers -  Queensland Health
    The guide presents health and socio-cultural information on ethnic communities (including torture and trauma and issues for children, young people and women). It encourages health staff to actively explore cultural issues with patients and cautions against sterotyping.


  • Australian Migrant Resource Centre 
    The peak community settlement service agency assisting refugees and other migrants with initial on-arrival settlement and continues to assist migrants and refugees to negotiate the social, cultural and economic life of South Australia.


  • Multicultural Centre for Women's Health
    Australian immigrant women's health organisation conducting health promotion with working women. Offers services in many languages.


  • Refugee Council of Australia  
    A non-profit peak organisation providing information on and advocacy for refugees and humanitarian entrants in Australia. It is not a part of the Australian Government.
    An excellent source of information and links.


  • Survivors of Torture and Trauma Assistance and Rehabilitation Service Inc.
    STTARS is a small non-government, not-for-profit service incorporated in South Australia which assists people who have experienced torture or trauma related to war and the refugee experience.

  • Drug and Alcohol Multicultural Education Centre (DAMEC) (NSW)
    Assisting and supporting alcohol, tobacco and other drug (AT&OD) service providers to make a difference to the way they access and service culturally and linguistically diverse (C&LD) client.


  • Forum of Australian Services for Survivors of Torture and Trauma (FASSTT)
    A coalition of agencies that respond to the needs of survivors of torture and trauma who have come to Australia from overseas.




  • The Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture (VFST)
    People in Victoria who were tortured or traumatised in their countries of origin, in other countries, or while fleeing those countries.

  • Mental Health Council of Australia
    The Mental Health Council of Australia (MHCA) is the independent, non-government sector peak body.
