It’s not easy being a kid

Read the topic  It's not easy being a kid then see if you can make up your own story about why it’s not easy being yourself.

it can be confusing being a kid

  • Maybe you could ask older people in your family what they found hard when they were at primary school?
  • Maybe they could write a story [or you could write it for them] and then you can compare and decide if things were better or worse for kids now or when they were kids.
  • Maybe you could get others in your class to join in or you could make a big display of all the stories?

Self-esteem

Read the topic Self-esteem - feeling good about yourself

be happy with who you are  Some people think that when a person is said to have high self-esteem that must mean he or she thinks themselves better than others.

Wrong! You don’t have to be a high achiever to feel good about yourself. There are lots more good people who are well thought of, work hard, have good friends and family, keep trying when things don’t go well at first and … have high self-esteem .

Look at these sentences below. Write them out then decide which sentences show High self-esteem and which show Low self-esteem.

  • feeling energetic and hopeful
  • looking for ways to succeed
  • believing that you can't change anything
  • having no respect for yourself
  • having no confidence in yourself
  • respecting others' differences and your own
  • putting yourself down even when someone is giving you a compliment
  • feeling that you're OK as a person
  • lounging about and not doing anything active
  • willing to have a go at something new
