Syphilis is rarer these days than it was once. Syphillis is easily treated but can have serious complications if not treated soon after infection.
Both men and women can have syphillis, and it can be passed from an infected pregnant woman to her unborn baby.
Warning:
If you suspect you have a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), don't give it to others, get tested and treated quickly.
For information about the effects of a syphillis infection, diagnosis and treatment have a look at the pamphlet 'Syphillis' on the site of the Sexually Transmitted Disease Services in South Australia.
