South Australian services

If you have concerns about your child's communication, you may wish to contact:

  • your child's pre-school or school teacher who may be able to refer your child to a Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS) speech pathologist
  • your local community hospital
  • your local community health centre
  • a private speech pathologist - refer to Speech Pathologists in the Yellow Pages.

Additional assistance is available from:

  • Flinders Medical Centre Speech and Hearing Clinic for children under school age with speech, language and feeding disorders and for children of all ages with voice disorders. Testing for Central Auditory Processing (CAP) difficulties is available for children over 7 years.

  • Women's and Children's Hospital Department of Speech Pathology provides assessment, diagnosis and management for children with problems in the areas of language, speech, fluency, voice and feeding.

  • Early Intervention Network Coordinators provide information and support for families with children 0-8 years with developmental delay, disabilities or at risk of developmental delay.
