We live in a great country, and this time of year can be great. Lots of daylight and time to be outside doing fun things like swimming, walking, biking or playing games with friends.

But, we also live in a country where bushfires are common. Wherever we live, we can be affected by them. Town, city or country, we may not all be directly involved, but we see the pictures, know people who have lost homes or belongings and can feel pretty scared at times. Our topic on Bushfires will tell you more.

Fire can be dangerous wherever you live. Does your family have an emergency plan that you all know about? Our topic Safety from fire can give you some tips.

Many fires in the home start in the kitchen, so check out Safety in the kitchen.

If you live in or near the country, then this site has lots of good information on how to keep yourself and others safe.

Bushfires cost the lives of people and animals, and many people lose their homes or other property. Some fires are deliberately started by someone (arson) or accidently started when for example someone has a picnic fire in the wrong place at the wrong time of the year.

It is up to all of us to obey the rules about lighting fires during the Bushfire season.
