Learn about each other
25 Aug 2012
Australia has a population that is becoming more and more multicultural. Kids in your class may have come from another country to live here, may have been born here or their families came here many years ago from another country.
- They may look different.
- They may wear different clothing to you.
- They may speak more than one language.
- They may have different traditions and customs to you and your family.
- They may have different religious beliefs.
- Their food may be different to yours.
Everyone is special and unique and we are all Australians.
We all look different on the outside, but inside we all want the same things – to have a family, to care for others and be cared for, and to have a place we can call home.
South Australia is often called the Festival State. Almost every weekend there is a celebration happening somewhere. We can visit the festivals and learn about all the different cultures which make up our nation.
Click on this link to find out if anything is happening that you can go and visit. http://www.multicultural.sa.gov.au/calendar.htm
Or if you are going to have a special celebration of something in your culture, ask a friend from school to join you.
Learning about different cultures helps us understand each other better and you could make more new friends.
