Everyone feels fear and gets nervous sometimes. It's a natural human response to the challenges of life.
Anxiety is when this fear becomes a little stronger and lasts longer. When someone suffers from anxiety, there may not be any thing there at the time to trigger the fear response. It could be a fear of something that may happen or something that has happened. When this anxiety becomes really bad, the person may have an anxiety disorder.
There are different types of anxiety disorders. Social phobias are one type and this can make a person feel uncomfortable in public settings, like riding on a bus for example.
Anxiety disorders are not uncommon and there are different techniques that are used to deal with them. For more information about anxiety disorders and how they are treated see our topic Anxiety.
If you feel you could have an anxiety disorder, it would be a good idea to see your doctor.
