26 Oct 2009
There are many rather nasty and scary things about cigarettes and smoking that you need to be aware of.
Cigarettes and tobacco contain a powerful drug - nicotine. This drug enters the body very quickly – just a matter of seconds when smoked. Nicotine affects the heart and changes your blood pressure. It is actually deadly in high doses, and has been used as a pesticide in the past!
Nicotine is said to be more addictive than heroin or cocaine – so it can be very hard to stop using tobacco and cigarettes once you've started.
What else does smoking do? It gives you:
- smelly breath
- wrinkles
- a reduced range of tastes and smells
Worst of all – smoking kills you. Smoking has been liked with:
- heart attacks
- strokes
- emphysema
- cancer
- and many more illnesses and conditions.
